Anime Studio Free Beach

This beach scene is versatile! You have the ability to place your character in the tower, or behind the lifeguard tower’s guard rails, as he walks up the ramp. You can, of course, also walk him behind the tower or ramp by moving him around within the layers. Both lifeguard buoys have a strap and a rope that can be moved with bones. Grab the bone over the black strap to control its rope properly. Use the translate layer tool to make the waves move onto land.

Free Anime Studio monster truck 4x4

I’ll try to keep the free Anime Studio content coming. Here’s a free monster truck 4×4, modeled after a Ford F-350 crew cab. The lights turn on and off with the click of a button. I created this truck in Anime Studio Pro 6, but it should open in Anime Studio Debut 6, too. I didn’t use any features that Debut doesn’t have.

Sorry Mac users, but this monster truck is for Windows only! I’ll try to post a transparent png version for you.

Anime Studio Bone Rigging Tutorial

As promised, here’s my character, split apart into pieces to show you how to rig your character’s bones in Anime Studio.

When rigging bones this way, there’s no need to separate the pieces before adding the bones. If you separate them, it’ll frustrate you every time you insert your character into a scene and he’s in pieces.

Step 1: Create the individual pieces and assemble them (I didn’t split the head into its pieces- see the Anime Studio character setup article for that instruction)

Step 2: Create a bone layer and add bones (in appropriate order) with region binding turned on

Step 3: Select desired layer, then select the “bind layer” tool (looks like a bone on top of a piece of paper), then select the bone to attach the layer to. i.e. select the upper arm layer, then the bind layer tool, then the humorous bone.

Step 4: Repeat steps 2-4 until complete

Step 5: Use the “Bone strength” tool to turn the strength of every bone all the way off! If you fail to turn even one of them all the way off, your character will be mangled!

Character Setup in Anime Studio

Many people have asked me how I setup my characters in Anime Studio, so here’s a tutorial. In my opinion, this is the easiest way to setup a character. See how many different body parts there are. By doing it this way, you can lay your character’s body parts where they’re supposed to go, and simply add the bones. You don’t have to worry about spreading the body parts out, as you may have seen in other tutorials.

Notice my switch layer named “mouths” has happy mouths and mad mouthsinside of it. When I insert my voice snippets, I can choose which mouths I want for each snippet by assigning the Papagayo file to that specific mouth. This is handy if I need his expression to change in response to another character or action.

I didn’t open the two “hand” switch layer folders to show you what’s inside because I have about 30 different hands for each folder.

I did open the “eyes” switch layer to show you those. This character is pretty simple. I haven’t given him “winking eyes” or “twitching eyes,” because I haven’t needed them, yet. Most expressions can be achieved with the seven switch layers I have. I can adjust the points in the eyes with the translate tool if I need to.

It is possible to combine some of the features on this character, but I didn’t so let me explain. The collar and the shirt could have been one piece; the same with the head and hair. I didn’t do it this way because I have one file I call “Frankenstein’s monster” which contains multiple hair layers, clothing layers, body types, etc. To create a completely new character, all I have to do is choose which files I want to keep, and which ones I delete. Then I rename the file as my new character.

In the next article, I’ll split the character into his individual pieces and show you what they look like.

How to make a cartoon arm:

I’ll demonstrate an arm in Anime Studio, but it’s the same for Creatoon, Toon Boom, or any other program. The only difference may be how you rig it.

Here’s what the cartoon arm looks like when it’s assembled:

To make the arm versatile, it should be made from 3 pieces; a hand, forearm, and upper arm. The upper arm and forearm should be symetrical shapes. This allows the arm to change direction without having to make a switch layer for the different pieces.

The arm is able to change direction easily, just by switching the hand. One the arm breaks the plane of what’s natural, we change the hand layer make the forearm and upper arm look correct. See the examples below:

: Watch his left arm

: It’s almost not natural looking in this position.

: Arm has broken the natural plane, so we SWITCH THE HAND ONLY.

You may want to tweek the different parts, but overall, this is a very versatile arm rig.
