I just got the email announcing the release of Anime Studio 9, set to go public in September of 2012.
I know very few details at this point, but rest assured, you’ll be able to find out everything here as soon as it releases.
I’m looking forward to at least 2 of the features that have been announced.
- FASTER – It will be built on 64 bit architecture and have GPU acceleration, which should make it a lot faster.
- EASIER – They’ll be adding a few new tools which will make your cartoons easier to animate, including a new move layer tool, an enhanced timeline, smart bones, and editable motion graphs.
Move Layer Tool
Since many animators are familiar with 3D animation programs, which have to make the most of their workspace out of necessity, it makes sense to finally implement a layer tool that’s more similar to a 3D program’s. This is pure speculation, but I have a feeling the new move layer tool will be like the one Smith Micro introduced in their new program, MotionArtist. It’s a single tool that combines all the layer tools into one, so you can simply click to scale layer, rotate layer, or translate layer, based on whether you click the box, click outside the box, or click inside the box. I wouldn’t be surprised if they combined the camera tools, too, just like they did in MotionArtist.
I’ll keep you posted.
