Is a custom built gaming computer right for animation?

I’m running Anime Stuido 7 Pro software, not that the version matters.  About a year ago I went to Wal-Mart and bought their top of the line Hewlett-Packard  a6433w computer with 3.0 GB of RAM and dual Intel(R) Pentium(R) 2.0 GHz processors; a 32-bit system with only 286 MB of graphics memory

I rendered a little over 2 minutes of HD animation the other day, and it only took about 5 hours, or so.

Keep in mind that there are many variables that go into how long it takes to render animation.  I was using all vectors (no png or jpg files- which is a good thing), complex gradients, lots of actions, and doing it all in HDTV 1080p.  This was extremely high quality.  To render it in normal TV quality would have probably only taken an hour.  If you’ve used other computer animation programs, you know that Anime Studio pretty much blows them out of the water for rendering speed.

Anyway, now that I’ve got my big monitor, and my website’s making me some decent money, I’m thinking of upgrading my computer tower to something dedicated to animation only.

Is a gaming computer what I need for rendering animation?

I found a site that has some awesome prices on custom built computers, but I don’t know the first thing about computer hardware.  I’d probably spend all my money on a top of the line thingamajig, only to find out that my processing gets bottlenecked at the whatzahuzit that I only spent five bucks on.  So…

If a gaming system is what I need, what hardware do I need on a custom built one?

Any input is greatly appreciated.  SPAM will not be allowed!   I only want to know what hardware I need; I just want to know what custom built options are necessary to render animation.
